6. Honda Shadow Won’t Stay Running. A Honda Shadow won’t stay running if the starter relay is installed incorrectly and the electrical connection is crossed. A faulty, damaged, or worn-out ignition switch is another common cause of Honda Shadows that starts but won’t keep running.
Stop the engine. While pressing D, switch the ignition on, wait until the yellow ‘engine' symbol goes out on the dash, then release D. Press in fast sequence: DDNDN. On the dash, the letters D and S should appear together. Restart engine, allow it to idle. After a few seconds, the letters D and S should go out.
After a year of doing without, I finally fixed my tripmaster. Turns out, the capacitors leaked and I also messed up some traces on the PCB. I had to add a few jumper wires to make it all work, but I'm pleased with the end result, and it works which is the most important!
