If power to the start switch, clean, lube, and adjust contacts as needed. I'm also assuming you have a manual with a wiring schematic in the back.
Connect a 0-15 volt DC voltmeter to the battery. Positive lead to the positive terminal and the negative lead to ground. The engine should be warm not hot ( the radiator fan should not be running. Turn the head light dimmer switch to high. Start the motor and rev the motor to 5000 RPM.
